RealPlayer 10 Beta: Installation of codecs requires multiple attempts

Yesterday we reported a problem with the new beta release of Real Player 10, where -- upon connection to some streaming radio stations -- users are told that they need an uninstalled audio codec, but attempts to install it lead to the message, 'Software is out of date'.

It now appears that the codecs can be properly installed, but multiple attempts may be required.

MacFixIt reader Martin Staum writes "[Some] previous favorites or addresses of free radio stations saved from RealPlayer will not work, and Help menu gives the error message "Your software is outdated" (It is not). Reconnection after a new search to radio stations such as WQXR does seem to work. The required additional plugins (audio codec, video codec, etc.) do work, though there seem to be several attempts necessary before all the plugins are successfully installed by RealPlayer."

Also, though most users are successful in eventually installing the codecs, some report additional problems after the codecs are added. Walt French writes:

"Last night I also fired up the new Real Beta to listen to QXR. Unlike the other poster, I easily added the codec that Real 10 said it needed. (Perhaps because I removed the prior version?) However, after a half hour of enjoyable listening, I started experiencing frequent dropouts... had to go back to the player and reconnect. Eventually, it told me that my firewall must be blocking UDF's or some such and suggested that I punt."
