iPod Shuffle: Not mounting when connected through a hub
Yesterday we reported an issue where the iPod Shuffle refuses to mount when connected to the front USB port of a Power Mac G5. We've since received similar reports indicating problems when connecting the iPod Shuffle through an external USB hub.
MacFixit reader Chris Rosa writes:
"I recently bought a new USB 2.0 external hub (Belkin F5U237) specifically to dock my iPod shuffle, but haven't been able to get it to work yet. The Shuffle definitely get's power, and appears to think it's mounted (amber light flashes), but never appears on the desktop. Works fine connecting with a USB extension cable to my PB 12" 1GHz."
If you are having a similar issue, please let us know.

as USB back to the computer?
If you open iTunes you might find your iPod Shuffle sitting in the 'source' list.

I don't know if this is your problem, as it sounds like it may be a hardware
issue but here is a suggestion for anyone who is not seeing their ipod appear
on the desktop. Open iTunes when the ipod is connected, and check to see if
the ipod is displayed on the left hand side in iTunes. If it is that means that
the computer can see your ipod.
To make the ipod appear on the desktop, open the preferences in iTunes,
choose ipod and then choose general, then check the "enable disk use"
checkbox. That will enable it as a hard drive, and it will now appear on your
desktop.
Hope that helps.
