Trackpad speed on new PowerBooks slower?
Several readers have reported that the trackpads on Apple's newly introduced PowerBook G4 models (2005) move the cursor more slowly than previous generations.
One reader writes:
"I have noticed that the cursor speed of the trackpad is slower on the new G4 PowerBooks, with both the new one and my old one set to fastest track speed the newer one moves much slower."
"I went into the Apple Store and noticed this with all the new ones"
Another reader writes:
"I am on the new g4 powerbook 15 inch 1.67 and the track mouse does not scroll as quickly as the previous models. I of course have the track bar speed set to fastest as i did with my previous model."
If you are noticing a similar issue, please let us know.

the two-finger scrolling works well and fairly quickly on pages in safari, for
example. but the regular trackpad speed is downright unacceptable. i set the
speed to "fastest" and found no appreciable difference.
i was considering upgrading my PB 1Ghz sometime this coming year, but this
might be a deal breaker unless they can speed up the trackpad.
I too have notice this speed problem and have decided to not buy a new
powerbook until they fix it. Anyway, I'm currently using a program called
Sidetrack that makes old powerbooks scroll using the trackpad. I recently
spoke about it in a forum and showed a way to make a void zone with tape to
improve it's function. I also put up a page with a diagram using this void zone
method and a link to the SideTrack program and the forum. This page can be

Apparently Apple has changed the trackpad manufacturer from Synaptics to
their own internal group.
