Follow-up for NVidia 6800 Mac OS X booting issues

Yesterday we noted a set of instructions for creating a bootable Mac OS X CD, and a bootable Mac OS X installation DVD compatible with the NVidia 6800 line of graphics card.

MacFixIt reader Paul, who sent us the link containing the instructions, notes a minor caveat -- only one of the NVidia 6800's DVI ports will deliver a video signal when using the method of holding down the option key at startup to select a startup volume.

"When I would option-boot initially after installing the card, I would just get a black screen - nothing - even though the computer seemed fine.

"Very odd behavior. I could not boot into any other hard drive.

"After a lot of trouble shooting, and then finally confirming with Apple, I discovered that - of the two DVI ports on the 6800 - only the one on the right - as you face the back of the machine - will deliver a signal when you option-boot. The other one, by default, doesn't seem to feed out any signal. It will work when you boot up normally, but not during an option-boot."
