Mac OS X 10.3.9: Virtual PC problems

by CNET staff

A handful of readers have reported issues with Virtual PC 7.0 under Mac OS X 10.3.9.

MacFixIt reader Eric writes:

"Since updating my wife's dual 2.5GHz G5 to 10.3.9 she cannot run Virtual PC. We have the latest version, but two weird things happen: starting the start menu kills access to the dock. When we stop the start menu, the dock returns. Also, Virtual PC is not recognizing keyboard input."

I always found the VPC Start Menu in the Dock clunky. It frequent locked up
and froze the Dock. I stopped using it long ago, way before OS 10.3.9

no problems running VPC 7 under 10.4 on a powerbook

the only thing i had to do was reinstall the VPC Additions, and that might need
to be done under 10.3.9 if you are experiencing problems

No problems on an iMac G4 1ghz. Although I believe it's a slower then when I
was running VPC 7 on 10.3.8. I hope MS gets to work and fixes the Tiger
    problems with VPC7

I have the same machine with no problems. Suggestions:
    Download and reinstall Combo update
    Repair Permissions
    Run cron maintenance tasks

VPC DID work before update to 10.3.9. After the update, I also increased memory to 1.128Gigs, expecting a VPC performance boost... Instead, start-up of the app now takes 8-10 minutes. Things are slow to respond within the program, too.

Go into the VPC settings and lower the amount of RAM your Virtual PC is
    Using.
