Mac OS X 10.4.1: Problems with some internal modems
A handful of readers have reported issues using their built-in dial-up modems after updating to Mac OS X 10.4.x.
MacFixIt reader Ronald Waters writes:
"I have a Titanium DVI PowerBook G4 and noticed that the first time I took it out of town I could not access my internal modem to check email. Called Apple, and after 20 minutes of troubleshooting, they advised to reinstall Tiger. When I got home I reinstalled and the problem remained. Took it to the Apple Store in Dallas. They booted with Panther and the modem worked. They rebooted with their version of Tiger and the computer failed to access the modem. Apple advised that it was a Tiger problem and it only affects the DVI model laptops. They also said they were working on it however I noticed that the update for Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.1) does not address the problem."
