Since installing 10.4.2 I have had difficulty with the settings for the Microsoft
Intellipoint software on my Microsfot Optical Trackball. After applying the
settings for the buttons, the settings disappear after restart.
I have also tried using USB Overdrive and SteerMouse, but the same thing
    happens with those settings.
Various uninstall, reinstall and repair-permission exercises later, the probe,
    persists.
There seems to be a particular problem relating to the scroll wheel, and
applying settings to its 'click' function.
It has been suggested to me that the built-in setup for the new Apple Mouse
mighht be causing the problem, and I'm also wondering whether there might
be another applicaton conflicting with it. All applications that I have installed
    have been the current versions.
The Tiger installation was made on a clean (ie everything erased) hard drive
    on a 1GHz eMac with 1GB RAM. I went straight from 10.4.to 10.4.2.
