Nikon scanner and G3/BW's: no go? Nikon confirmed to Rick Minson that the LS10 Scanner will not work with the new G3/BW Macs.
Turn off Blind Writes if using "accelerator boards" A reader received the following note from the CharisMac Support Team: "We have found that with third party accelerator boards, you need to turn off Blind Writes in the option window of our utility prior to installing a driver or initializing a drive. In 99% of the cases, it has eliminated otherwise unexplained symptoms."
AppleScript file deals with Apple Menu Options problems A followup to our recent reports on AMO hassles: One of the signs that you are likely to have problems with this program is when its Preferences file balloons in size, often to greater than 200K. To help out here, for those that continue to use AMO, Paul Lindblad wrote an AppleScript (DeleteAMOpref_TCP_DNR.hqx) that deletes AMO Preferences when its size becomes bloated. It also deletes the Recent Items folder in the Apple Menu Items folder and opens the AMO Control Panel to deselect the nefarious "Recently used items" option. Additionally, it deletes obsolete Mac TCP DNR files.
New TAM message board With the demise of Ambrosia Cafe the 20th Anniversary Discussion Board disappeared. leaving a lot of TAM owners cut off from one another. The MacReviewZone has started a new TAM message board to replace it.
The Word 98 for Macintosh Bugs Page has been updated with reports of many additional bugs. We recently received a report of a bug that was also mentioned on this Page: If you change the default font for envelopes and labels, it does not stick. It reverts back to Helvetica the next time you select this feature.
ZDTV Radio: error in Chronicle column retracted Gary Etie found the following statement in a column by Dan Fost, appearing in the San Francisco Chronicle: "ZDTV Radio,... It's ... only available to people who have the latest Microsoft browser, Internet Explorer 5." Gary found that ZDTV Radio worked just fine on his Mac with Netscape web browsers. He sent a letter to the Chronicle. Mr. Fost acknowledged the error and a correction was printed in the next day's paper. Gary posts more details on his web site.
Myth II v1.2.1 Update is out. This update provides increased stability in pre-game chat on bungie.net, properly disables/reenables SLI support on the PC, allows the use of Voodoo Banshee cards, fixes problems with Alt+Tab, and correctly displays imported netgame preview screens.
