Meanwhile, Microsoft Explorer 3.01 beta was released recently. As noted in MacWEEK: "Explorer 3.01 can download a file from a FTP site without a helper application. An option to accept or decline cookies has been added. The beta version also has a Java security fix built in."
Finally, MacWEEK also reports that Claris Emailer 2.0 is expected to ship this week.
A potential problem with the new version of Emailer: Version 1.x has an option called "Do not delete read messages." Version 2.0 replaces this with an option called "Leave messages on server for X days." This new option is more flexible - if it works. Unfortunately, as noted by Wayne Carrigan, it requires that your mail server support this feature. Not all do. This means that you may be able to save read messages on your server in Emailer 1.x, but not in 2.0.
