Canon "working" on Classic Vs. USB issue

We previously reported that while Classic is running under Mac OS X 10.2.2, a number of USB devices are inoperable. Only quitting Classic resolves the issues, which include processor drain and output irregularities including stalled transfers.

Canon's technical support department first offered this bland input on the issue:

"Regrettably, the Native OS X version of the driver for some our scanner models will not function when Classic mode is in use. It is designed strictly to function when Native OS X is solely in use. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

But the company is now telling customers, including MacFixIt reader Jon Voskuil, that it is working on the issue, and suggests using an older version of its scanner driver for Mac OS 9 operation:

"Canon is currently working on this issue. You can still use the scanner with Classic Mode applications using the Classic Mode driver. Your comments have been noted and forwarded to the appropriate department."
