While the functionality was demonstrated during the Macworld Expo in San Francisco, an OWC newsletter has provided more details on the FireWire PCI card booting capability that will be available in the soon-to-be-released XPostFacto 3.0.

In the newsletter, Larry O'Conner writes:

"The other highlight of v3.0 is the first time ever ability to boot FireWire from add-on FireWire cards. Up to this point, only Macs with built in FireWire ports could boot from FireWire drives. XPostFacto lets you boot for the first time from FireWire you've added to your Mac. With this feature, among other things, you can now take your whole OS X 'life' and boot it from any computer that has FireWire! Boot the SAME OS X FireWire drive off any Mac with any FireWire port!"

The new release will also incorporate OS X Cache control and automatically provide support to activate the L2 and/or L3 cache for all (or most all) of the various G3 and G4 upgrades.

The current XPostFacto version, 2.2.5, is available as a free download.
