Troubleshooting Epson's new printer drivers: Avoiding stalls
Several readers have reported varying problems with Epson's newly released Mac OS X printer drivers, including stalled printing and problems with borderless mode. MacFixIt reader Chris Scherer writes:
"I have a CX 5200 and a Epson Stylus Photo 960. I use Mac OS X 10.2.4 on a Power Macintosh G4 AGP. I run the both printers via a USB 2.0 card. After installing the new drivers, I start a print job, and suddenly the print job is stopped. I can see this in the print center. When I try to restart the print job, it halts again after a couple of seconds I deleted the print drivers, reinstalled and it worked for 2 or 3 print jobs and back the bug was. I used print repair center with no success. I also realized that there are 2 CX5200 printers visible in the print center after the installation. One is called just CX5200, and the other one CX5200 (USB)."
A poster to Apple's discussion boards reports this solution for a similar problem:
- I did all this with the printer on. I used Print Center Repair to erase all the Epson printer drivers.
- I deleted all the printers (except GIMP Print) from Print Center.
- I then restarted (I just wanted to be sure that all this old driver stuff was lost from the currently running OS).
- Next, I installed Epson's new drivers. Another restart (the install required this).
- Finally, I used Print Center to set up new printers.
