Troubleshooting Entourage Exchange Beta: Notes on installation, usage

We are beginning to receive the first usage reports for the Exchange-enabled release of Entourage v.X, which is currently making private beta rounds and should be delivered before the end of the third quarter in 2003. Here are a few observations from beta testers who wish to remain anonymous:

  • The CD is dated June but contains an older version of MSN Messenger than is currently available.
  • Installation sometimes fails under Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther). However, Mac OS X 10.2.x allows you to copy the Disk Image off the media, which can then be transferred to a Panther volume.
  • The instructions ask users to replace their entire Office folder.
  • The connection wizard can fail if you have a non-standard Exchange set-up.
  • For manual set-up, you can type in the IP of the Exchange host, type in your email address, type in the SMTP server address, then type in the Directory Server address.
  • Apparently users cannot see shared calendars, as they appear as a folder full of meeting requests.
  • Some users are experiencing crashes with other Microsoft Office v.X applications after replacing the previous Application Support folder with the new one included with Exchange-enabled Entourage. Reverting to the old Application Support folder should resolve the issues.
