Troubleshooting StuffIt Standard 8.0: Permissions problems, fix
Jensen Gelfond reports that after installing Stuffit Standard 8.0, the application refused to run. A thread on Aladdin's support pages indicates that this may be a permissions problem, and provides a possible fix.
An Aladdin technical support representative, Josh Stender, reports that Stuffit Expander 8.0 has a strange behavior change with .sit files that can cause this issue. He writes
"To correct it, type the following using the Terminal application which can be found in the "Utilities" folder which is in the "Application" folder:
- chmod -R 755 NameOfApp.app
"Make sure you 'cd' to the directory where the application is located or type the path to the application before its name when you type this command..."

that every other Stuffit Upgrade has had major install problems... Too
bad they are a monopoly.
be using a Mac....a computer that's (supposedly) easy
to use? This "Terminal" crap is for the birds! Are we
ever going to get back to a computer that the whole
family can use?

(3 Comments)My terminal is yet another reason for me to stick with OSX (or Why I
Couldn't Live With Windows). But I'm not a bird.
It's a (major) bug. But nobody said you had to use the terminal. Just go
into the Finder and change permissions manually (click the 'apply to
enclosed items' button). And if it doesn't set execute properly, then
that's probably too bad.
