iDVD 4.0.1 slideshow audio issues (#2)

by CNET staff

Yesterday we reported a problem with iDVD 4.0.1's slideshow audio accompaniment where there is a slight pause when a transition is used between photos. The problem generally does not occur during preview - only on the finished DVD.

Some users now report that the problem only happens when certain drive models are used. One reader writes "I have witnessed this in some of our projects. However, in our case it will only occur on a certain brands of players."

John Willis adds "I too observed the audio pause from an Apple burned DVD (IDVD 4.1), but it was dependent on which DVD player was showing the DVD. Toshiba and Sony worked fine, Magnavox did have the pause."

If you are having this problem, please let us know what type of drive you are using.

Can the problem be in too much I/O activity on the system HD rather than an
issue with iDVD or the burning drive. I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 in a
dual 1G G4 with 1G memory and 2 80G internal HDs. Just burned 7 DVDs of
slide shows, some with nearly 900 images in 17 slideshows and 4 menus,
complete with dissolve transitions and had no audio problems
whatsoever. I have my project and asset files on the 2nd HD with 50B free
space available. My system HD has a minimum 20G free space. I ran into
some stuttering problems with iMovie when I tried to create the final file on
the system HD. I attributed it too much read and write activity on that drive.
    Just a thought.
