Apple releases Bluetooth firmware 1.1

by CNET staff

Apple has provided updated firmware (version 1.1) for DLink modules revision B2 or later, and Apple Bluetooth internal modules on PowerBooks and PowerMacs.

Improvements in the update installation process, better performance when waking the computer from sleep, and support for additional key commands during startup. The Bluetooth Firmware Updater is for D-Link USB Adapters (revision B2 or later), and Apple internal Bluetooth modules on PowerBooks and PowerMacs. This firmware update will improve connectivity between the computer and the Apple Wireless Keyboard and Mouse. Use this updater for the modules specified above; this updater is unsupported with any other Bluetooth modules.

The update requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later, and is also available through software update.

Works fine on a 12" PB 1Ghz running 10.3.3 with Apple wireless mouse.
    Seems more responsive.

My PowerBook crashed during the firmware update now my DBT-120vB3 is
dead. It shows no lights when plugged in. It still appears in System Profiler
but the firmware program tells me that it is "turned off".

Any suggestions on how to force the firware to download/reset?

My 17" PowerBook crashed during the firmware update. The updater now
says that "the computer does not have a bluetooth module installed".

    Any solutions?

    Thanks,
    Andrew.

The last update fixed a problem with the BlueTooth not acknowledging the
presence of my Apple Wireless mouse. Then I installed this last one.... Back to
the operation of having to re-acknowledge the mouse and keyboard.

I had problems with the installation as well, but they occured before the
download started. After the installation failed, I got a dialog window that said
that I needed to restart my computer if I wanted to try the firmware update
again. My internal bluetooth was not recognized until I restarted.

After restart, I ran the update again, and all went well. If those of you having
problems haven't tried restarting, that's the obvious first step.
