NVidia 6800 and Mac OS X booting problems: creating a bootable CD

Over the past few days we've been covering issues with starting Mac OS X when an NVidia NVidia GeForce 6800 card is installed. The issue affects not only standard installations of both Mac OS X Client and Mac OS X Server, but also the startup installations used by a number of third-party utilities including TechTool Pro, as well as Apple's own Hardware Test CD.

We also noted some serious wake-from-sleep issues apparently caused by the graphics card.

We've since been alerted to a set of instructions for creating a bootable Mac OS X CD, and a bootable Mac OS X installation DVD compatible with the NVidia 6800 line of graphics card.

The procedure involves using the shareware application BootCD to create a bootable Mac OS X volume that also contains NVidia 6800 drivers.
