In addition to the security and system updates released earlier today, Apple has firmware updaters available for iMac graphics as well as Apple RAID cards.

iMac Graphics FW Update 1.0.2

The graphics updater improves stability on the Radeon HD 2600 Pro and Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics processors, included with some iMac models. It requires at least OS X 10.5.2 to install, and is under a megabyte in size.

Apple RAID Card Firmware Update

The RAID card update includes the following fixes and improvements:

  • Reliability improvements during boot and power fail recovery
  • Addresses a potential issue when rebuilding a degraded RAID 5
  • Resolves an issue that can fill the on-board flash file system
  • Improves battery handling and reporting

It is recommended for late 2006 and early 2008 models of Mac Pros and XServes that contain Apple RAID cards.

As for all firmware updates, be sure to not interrupt the update process, even if it seems to be taking a long time. Doing so can break hardware and prevent your computer from running.

Usually, the updater will only work on computers for which it is eligible. Therefore, one way to see if your computer can use this updater is to download it and try applying it. If you cannot use it, the updater will display an alert and not allow you to install it. It also should not appear in Software Update for you if you cannot use it.

The iMac Graphics Firmware not works for me (Early 2008 iMac 24" - MacOS X.5.8). Always I tried got the message: Alert: Your computer does not need this update.

Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac8,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro

Any ideas?
