Apple has released Performance Update 1.0 to address intermittent hard drive pauses that had been reported by "a small number of customers". The update should be available for all qualifying machines via Software Update. Users can also download the Performance Update 1.0 for Leopard or Snow Leopard directly from Apple.

This seems to have worked for me on my MacBook Pro 17" 2009. I was having pauses, not that I could pin them down to the hard disk, and they seem to have stopped.

My new MBP was experiencing these hangs (ordered early October). Some prefs were lost after the update but haven't had a hang since.

This Performance Update caused huge problems for my Late 2008 MacBook Pro, as described at Apple Discussions.

- Screen Flicker
- Missing Boot chime
- Volume issues

What is the best way to remove this "Performance Update"?

Thank you.

I cannot download Firefox since I switched to Snow Leopard. Also, when I try to load Disk Utility it will not load and I get a message that it quit unexpectedly. Evey time I try this the same thing happens. Help--Snow Leopard is killing my Mac and me.
