Pages '09 quits when attempting to Save As...

I discovered a quite annoying issue with Pages '09 last night when attempting to change an already completed document and save it as a different copy. Pages would save the document but would immediately (sometimes even during the save) quit. This issue was recreated several times using the Save as... command as well as when attempting to print and using the the Save as PDF... option.

Upon getting to the office, I popped open my MacBook Pro and began delving further into my Pages predicament. Opening the Console and viewing my crash report ended up being the key to cracking this case. Users can access their crash reports by navigating to (username > Library > Logs > DiagnosticReports) and selecting the .crash file that was created at the time of their crash.

While examining the report, I noticed that at the end of my crashed thread (Thread 0) the preference file (com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist) had several extra status entries. From this I determined that my first step to troubleshooting this issue would be to remove the (com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist) file by navigating to (username > Library > Preferences) and dragging the file to my Desktop.

I restarted Pages '09 and attempted to change and subsequently Save as... to find that I no longer experienced a crash. From that point, I deleted the (com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist) file from my Desktop (a new one was created in its place automatically).

I purchased Snow Leopard, installed and quickly discovered that Quicktime Player 7 (or 10) would not open my email videos. I contacted Apple Support on 9-2-09, have spent over 15 hours on the phone and am still at the same point. Apple doesn't seem to have a clue--how about you? (please)

First troubleshooting step: find the preferences file and remove it. And for something like QuickTime, download a fresh copy.

I also experience the same {annoying] problem with MS WORD and EXCEL. Do you think I should do the same thing?

lexxalon, you probably need some codecs installed. Download Perian and Flip4Mac WMV Player, and then see if QuickTime Player can handle your videos. If that still doesn't work, ditch QuickTime Player and see if VLC can open them up.

Another option is to save the videos to disk and then open them with VLC media player.

I've been battling this myself (and not alone) for some time now. Safari would
occasionally crash when trying to print a page as a PDF for instance.

Initially it looked like this could be a font issue. After cleaning out font problems
(duplicates and some with "kern" table warning) the problem seemed to be much reduced, but not gone.

The other day there was an update to a David Pogue initiated discussion on this topic.

That led to this page;

I figured none of the suggestions offered there could be harmful so I tried them.
I've had but one crash since (the new TypeStyler) - but not much time has passed since I did this either.

The comments on the ilounge.com page make me hopeful.
