Apple has released a couple of updates: one for iTunes, bringing the latest software version to 9.0.2, and the other for Apple TV, which updates the software to version 3.0. These updates were released together because the update to iTunes adds support for the new Apple TV software. In addition to support and stability, a few new and requested features have been added to both of these updates.

iTunes 9.0.2 -- This update adds support for Apple TV version 3.0, and also adds an option to have a dark background when viewing songs and albums in "Grid" view, a feature of previous versions that was much missed in iTunes 9. The update should be available through Software Update.

Apple TV 3.0 -- This update adds a redesigned menu, and adds support for viewing iTunes extras and iTunes LP in full screen. You can also now listen to Genius mixes and internet radio via your TV and home theater systems. The update is available through the Apple TV settings in the "Update Software" section.

Installed 9.0.2. Just stalls doing the "Updating iTunes Library"

This is NOT GOOD.

Hmmm...that usually indicates a problem with the library. Do you have a recent backup that you can try?

Had the same problem. Tried several times. Finally uninstalled iTunes, re-installed from scratch after cleaning the registry and rebooting, etc. Same error over and over. It would go through about 3/4 of "Updating iTunes Library" and stall. of Finally I uninstalled and re-installed using iTunes 9.0.1. Everything immediately worked fine again. Never had a problem with an iTunes update or install before. Guess I'll be skipping this "upgrade".

in the iTunes Preferences, in the General tab, there's a dropdown for Grid View.

no problems here with the upgrade. OS10.5.8

I found one small problem with iTunes 9.0.2 - When using the 'get info' menu item, specifically the larger window option for dropping album art drags to individual song tracks - nothing happens. The art does not appear in the window like it did in previous iTunes versions. This occurred when dragging art from Safari (amazon.com) to the 'get info' window for particular single song selections (I haven't tried the same with multiple song selections). There is a work around solution. You have to drop the art to your desktop first, then you can drag it to the 'get info' window and it appears like it should. It's kind of nuisance to have an extra step added. I hope a future update fixes this.

itunes streaming to my apple tv seems to be broken with this new update. iTunes loses connection with the apple tv after just a few minutes of playing.
Same issue if streaming from my windows xp machine or my snow leopard mac.

If you install the latest itunes update, you must also install the latest appletv update. After both are installed, there should be no issues with itunes connecting to your appletv.

iTunes 9.0.2 seems to have broken some of my most common smart playlists on the iPod. They work just find on the mac itself, but when I plug in my iPod, it doesn't see them at all, and deleted the associated files.
Everything was working fine up through 9.0.1

The affected playlists were smart playlists that referenced other playlists. For example, I had a regular playlist for audiobooks I wanted to listen to on the iPod, and a smart playlist that referenced that playlist and added "Play count = 0" as a criteria, so they would delete as I listened to them. As I said, the playlist on the desktop is unaffected, but the iPod doesn't even see it, so I cannot select it for inclusion.

I installed this Itunes update yesterday. Had no problems other than library taking a little longer than usual to load first time. However when turning on my laptop today and using itunes, i went to use firefox and it crashes before it gets a chance to start up. So tried iternet explorer and it brings the page up then says internet explorer stopped responding and then gets rid of the page only to repeat the same sequence again and again and again. Currently scanning the pc for virus but seems funny that it was working absoloutely fine until installing the new itunes update.
Any advice or ideas?
