Microsoft has updated the Office:Mac 2008 collection of productivity applications to version 12.2.3, fixing security and stability issues. The update also fixes a text spacing issue when you use Office:Mac 2008 to open a Windows Office document to which an OLE object or a metafile is attached. This update is recommended for all Office:Mac 2008 users.

More information regarding this update, including specific update information for each program in the Microsoft Office:Mac 2008 suite can be found in this knowledge base article from Microsoft. Users can download the update here. Highlights include:

  • This update fixes an issue that causes Word to close unexpectedly in the following scenarios:
    • You accept tracked changes in a document.
    • You are working on documents that contain two separate language settings, and you run the Italian grammar check.
    • You try to save a Newsletter template as a .doc document.
  • Stability is improved with Document Connection. This update fixes an issue that causes Document Connection not to open some files or to display an error in the following scenarios:
    • The files do not have an associated start application.
    • The files have an equal sign (=) in the file name.
    • Multiple files that have different file types are checked out.

I'm still having that issue with auto update thinking that the latest version of Open XML isn't installed. Anyone know a fix?

All the auto-correct items I had entered disappeared. Thanks, Microsoft. Good job.

FYI: if you're using Entourage 13 - (EWS) for Exchange, it does update that too to 13.0.3.

I seem to be having more frequent problems with Entourage. It seems to quit about twice a day. It is getting frustrating, but I need to program.

Also, does anyone know if MS fixed the problem of using the iPhone with Entourage. I talked with MS and they acknowledged a problem where when syncing Entourage with the iPhone (Entourage had to sync with iCal) that duplicate events and contacts will occur.

Entourage with 12.2.3 can no longer access my POP passwords in my Keychain (Snow Leopard). I have to re-enter them every time I run Entourage.
Thanks, Microsoft. Crappy job.
