Original Article: As we noted in an article soon after the new iMacs were released, they seem to be shipping with many problems. Then, it was Flash and system resource corruption. Now, it seems as though the Core i7 iMacs are shipping DOA or with cracked screens. Several Mac media outlets are reporting an abnormally large amount of complaints surfacing from reception of the new all-in-one from Apple.
Of course, this is not a call to cancel your iMac order. Nor is this a suggestion that Apple's products have completely tanked in terms of quality. It is however, interesting to note that this sort of response to a shipped product from Apple is rare. Several users are complaining of cracked screens when they open the box from their recently received iMac purchase while others complain of a simply DOA machine after being unboxed.
The shared sentiment in this forum (and others) is summed up well by ASD user "aaydogan" here:
Just picked up my i& 27" from FedEx two hours ago. Outer box, inner box and all packing were in excellent shape. When I finally unwrapped everything I discovered the lower left hand corner of the glass was cracked in three places. I think has a packaging problem. This was very disappointing.
The silver lining in all of this, though, is that traditionally Apple is extremely helpful with online returns, although early reports are that orders are backed up nearly two weeks (though many users say that Apple is offering expedited shipping on the replacement unit). If you live near an Apple Store, you can take your machine there for assistance with returning it.
If you have ordered a 27-inch iMac: What was your experience? Did you get a DOA or cracked screen machine?
