With Mazda's redesigned Mazda6 sedan completed and on showroom floors, the automaker has turned its attention to the smaller Mazda3.

Scheduled to be revealed at the 2008 LA Auto Show in November, Mazda has given us a sneak peek at the all-new Mazda3 sedan, and it is a sexy little number. Details are still sparse, but the first thing we notice is the dramatically swept back front end, which brings the 3's aesthetic in line with the new Mazda6. Expect more power and more space over the current incarnation, as is par for the course with model updates. Possible power plants include 2.0- and 2.5-liter engines for the North American specification sedan. As long as the fantastic driving dynamic of the current Mazda3 is left intact, we'll be happy.

Expect to see more of the all-new Mazda3 sedan, along with the hatchback version, in our coverage of the 2008 LA Auto Show.

Now let's just hope that it'll have good fuel economy, a decent factory sound system, optional leather seating and a decent pricetag.

Mazda seems to be going slightly upscale with the aesthetics of their 3 and 6, lets hope that it doesn't leave its market segment.

Even though I think it borrows a bit too much from BMW (notice the swooping crease in the door bottoms/sills, and the hint of the Bangle butt trunk lid?), it's got better looking, more cohesive sheetmetal to my eyes, the one thing that I've always disliked about the current 3. More power usually means the same if not less MPG, but we'll see...

Nice! Even better news for Mazda is that Ford is selling its Mazda shares that owns. I was always worried about Ford's influence on Mazda's business. I own Mazda for 10 years already and the only problem I had was oil leak on front axle...cost me $120.00 to fix it. I would definitely buy another Mazda without any hesitation. Even when you buy lowest model like Mazda 3, drive it and you will have feeling like you have spend 30K on your car. It is great value for your money! I am not "selling it" here....just telling you my experience as owner.
