Second generation of the retro Mustang gets even better for 2010

by Wayne Cunningham

The gods of automotive design say that five years is too old for a car, so Ford went and redesigned the perfectly good Mustang for the 2010 model year. Fortunately, Ford didn't fix what wasn't broken, instead choosing to enhance design elements of the Mustang that make it such a good take on the classic 'stangs from the late '60s and early '70s. For this update, the hood gets bulgier, the front fenders drop a bit while the rear fenders climb a little higher. Roof options include metal, convertible soft top, and glass--the latter a unique design from a company willing to take chances. Ford has some of the best cabin tech going, with its Sync system, an option finally extended to the Mustang, along with a kickin' Shaker stereo.

Ug-ly. Coming from a classic Mustang enthusiest and owner of a restored 1964 1/2 coupe, I have to say that this design is just plain ugly. I love the current design, but adding that top line and the new quarter design make it look like they took the current design and smacked it with an ugly stick a few times. I really hope they change this before production or the competing nastalgic rides are going to eat this Mustang alive.

Also, could they have picked an uglier color?? That's probably making a lot worse than it is, but it's still terrible.
