Ford cuts noise with windshields
DETROIT--Ford Motor Co. unveiled five additional vehicles fitted with noise-blocking SoundScreen windshields from Zeledyne at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The windshields will be installed on the 2010 Ford Fusion and Fusion hybrid, 2010 Mercury Milan and Milan hybrid, and 2010 Lincoln MKZ cars. The windshields use a sheet of acoustic vinyl sandwiched between two layers of glass to reduce noise.
Ford already uses the windshields on the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs; Ford F-150 Platinum edition pickup; Lincoln MKS and Ford Focus cars; and Lincoln MKX, Mercury Mariner, and Ford Flex and Escape crossovers.
Zeledyne, of suburban Detroit, makes automotive and architectural glass.
