TomTom's iPhone cradle for iPhone has quietly made its way into the Apple Store. So, if you're an iPhone user with an extra $120 bucks burning a hole in your pocket for a navigation accessory (or $220, if you don't already own TomTom's navigation app), pop over to the Apple Store for a look.

According to TomTom's representative, the Apple Store product page is for preorders and TomTom has not yet announced a specific date for the product's availability. If Apple's claim that the product ships in 2-3 weeks is true, we should be seeing it soon, rather than later.

We've already questioned the value of a $120 phone cradle. The general consensus among our readers was that the price is a bit steep for an accessory, even with the inclusion of the uprated GPS receiver, 12 volt charger, and speakerphone. We'll be able to put the issue to rest when we finally get our unit in for testing.

INSANE! One could easily buy two quality stand-alone dedicated GPS units for this price. IF the cost of the cradle included the app, then one *might* be able to justify the price.

Their going to need to knock off at least $ 40.00 to make it sell decent.

Here is what I do with my gps:
- leave it in my car
- let my wife uses it
- lend it to my family members on long trip

I CAN'T DO THAT WHEN IT IS MY iPhone!!!

If it is cheaper than a separate GPS unit then I'll reconsider. But it is not worth it.

TomTom needs to think before they set their price.

I agree...when these corporate jerks get together to decide how they're going to slice up the market share you can really get a glimpse at their true nature.

Doesn't look like one could use this while a case is on the phone... that's pretty annoying. I've got to imagine it would have been a pretty simple fix. I wonder if they didn't think about it or didn't care about it. Either one doesn't really impress me.

Only idiots use cases..

Looks like every single person I know is an idiot, cause everyone I know puts a case on their iPhone. Stupid not to, considering how easily it all scratches and can break, costing a ton to fix or replace.

Anyway, I totally agree with foldsomething. And also this is *way* too expensive.. a standalone GPS unit costs a lot less than this. I mean, even nice ones cost $75 less. Since we're providing them with 90% of the hardware it seems to me like they're screwing us pretty well. Not me tho, cause I'm definitely not buying in.

Man this is expensive!? I have a Palm Pre with Sprint navigation (verbal turn-by-turn) which is free! And, it is very accurate. I just think with other (FREE) options out there they would at least try to price competitively.

Stand Alone GPS units, and the TomTom GPS cradle are in my opinion a waste of money, and both are inviting some thug to break your window. Empty GPS cradles are a tempting lure for crooks because.... where is the GPS.... In the glove box, or center console. That suction cup ring on your window, same thing, there's a GPS in there someplace the crack head is thinking.

I have a cheap 12v charger for my iPhone and I have the TomTom app, and it works great! Only in High-Rise areas do I have problem... so I place it on the dash in those rare occasions.

Don't compare a stand alone GPS with the iPhone /w TomTom they are two unique and incomparable devices. Next time you want to jump on your motorcycle, or in your car, or on your bicycle listen to some tunes, plug in a route, take phone calls while being directed turn by turn in the background, tell me how that Garmin's working for ya!

I own both, and use them both for different task's. But comparing a stand alone GPS to an iPhone w/ TomTom is a dumb argument. It's Apple's and Oranges...

I do agree however that the Cradle for TomTom is way, way overpriced. TomTom are you reading this... Of course not!

LOL. $220 is expensive for road navigation. Hopefully, the device helps find the way for the times when i can't prepare ahead of time.

Everything that's new is expensive. This is very common in tech industry. Give it a year or two in the market and they will have to reduce the price + you will get a product with less bugs.
