'Top Gear' tests for best drifting cars
What's the best car for drifting? The inquiring minds from BBC's "Top Gear" want to know...don't you?
While it has been fun watching Jeremy Clarkson of BBC's "Top Gear" fame test out fantastic rides for a thrill, I figured why not keep the fun going and bring on all the guys from "Top Gear"--Anthony Davidson and The Stig in this instance--as they try to figure out what the best car is for drifting.
In case you didn't know, drifting is "a driving technique and to a motor sport where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels through turns, while maintaining vehicle control and a high exit speed. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle prior to the corner apex, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn," according to Wikipedia.
There are numerous blogs that talk about which kind of car is good for this drifting, but in this "Top Gear" clip, the guys demonstrate why a car is desirable for drifting based on the car's capability to hit two targets on the turn of a drift. Some of the cars they test include a Murcielago, BMW's M3, Audi R8, and a few others as well. For an added test, the "Top Gear" guys don some rather odd footwear to see which automobile can truly be considered drift car royalty. I don't want to spoil what they're wearing or what vehicle reigns supreme, so just watch the clip and find out.
