Tesla Motors, in an effort to show off the practical nature of its electric cars, sent one of its Roadsters around the world.

Starting in Geneva during the Geneva auto show in mid-March, the Roadster has crossed Europe, and will be continuing on through India and China. After a run across the U.S., starting in Los Angeles and ending up in New York, the Roadster goes back to Europe, with the finish line in Paris on September 28, timed to coincide with the Paris auto show.

The trip, sponsored by Tag Heuer, qualifies as the first around-the-world trip by a pure electric car. You can follow the Tesla Roadster's progress on Tag Heuer's Odyssey of Pioneers Web site.

Tesla boasts that the Roadster has been charging up during stops from conventional electrical infrastructure in Europe, including at hotels, a barn, and a solar array in Italy.
