GM demonstrates its all-electric Cruze EV concept
GM has promoted extended-range plug-in vehicles as the ideal solution for U.S. consumers, but with the debut of the all-electric Cruze EV, the carmaker shows it has no problem cutting the gas entirely.

The carmaker revealed a test fleet of all-electric Chevrolet Cruzes and GM Daewoo Lacetti Premieres in Seole, South Korea, and the concept is about a year's worth of engineering between GM Daewoo, LG Chem, and LG Electronics.
"Although there is much more work to be done, our ability to develop this vehicle in less than a year offers a peek at the very promising plans we have for our customers in Korea and around the world," said Mike Arcamone, GM Daewoo President and CEO in a news statement.
The Cruze EV is equipped with a 31-kWh battery that generates a maximum of 150 kW, or about 102.5 miles per hour with a 0-60 of about 8.2 seconds. Real-world range has yet to be completed, but the Cruze EV has demonstrated a 100-mile range. Testing is expected to begin by the end of October: First up for the development team is to test a "quick-charge" application that will significantly reduce the Cruze EV's 220-volt charge time of 8 to 10 hours.
