Quick-charge your Nissan Leaf with new $9,900 unit
Nissan, with partner Sumitomo Corp., will offer a new quick-charging unit that will be available in 2012 and cost $9,900.

(Credit: Nissan)Nissan announced it will begin taking preorders for a new quick-charging unit to be shipped beginning in January 2012. The DC quick charger is being launched with partner Sumitomo Corp. and will retail for $9,900.
In just 30 minutes, the charger, which operates on a 480v current, can bring a Nissan Leaf from "a fully depleted state to 80 percent charged," Nissan said in a press release.
Two types of quick chargers will be available. One version is for indoor use--for fleet vehicles such as rental cars. Another model is for outdoor use--such as schools, public spaces, corporate campuses, and shopping malls.
"This charger is the first of its kind, and it's truly revolutionary," said Brian Carolin, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Nissan, in a press release. "A low-cost DC quick charger unlocks the potential for unprecedented electric vehicle use and adoption. We anticipate thousands of these chargers will be installed across the country, enabling electric cars like the Nissan LEAF to be driven for even greater distances and durations."
