A take gander through the LG GD900

If the Invisible Woman needed a cell phone to call the other members of the Fantastic Four, or if Wonder Woman wanted a handset for her namesake jet, they'd be wise to check out one of the latest phones from LG.

The GD900, which LG debuted at the GSMA World Congress, is billed as the world's first transparent-design phone. We're always skeptical when any company claims to have a "first in the world," but in this case we admit that we've never seen anything like the GD900.

Of course, not everything on the slider handset is transparent--when you think about it, a see-through display would be difficult to pull off--but the rear slider is translucent and the keypad gives off an eye-catching show. LG will also offer an accompanying Bluetooth headset, the HBM-M580.

At this point, we can't say whether the GD900 will rely on more than just looks. LG is keeping the feature set under wraps for now, but we should know the full specs in the second quarter of this year.

Interestingly enough, I only today saw a video of a transparent OLED display, with live video playing. Samsung produced, I believe. Combine that with this and you'd have a really nifty designer gadget.

But, of course, you still need somewhere to stash the electronics and the battery, which are definitely not transparent.

Wonder Woman would never call anyone from the Fantastic Four. They are from two different "Universes" Wonder Woman is from the DC Universe, so maybe she could call Batman, Superman, heck even Aquaman. The Fantastic Four is from the Marvel Universe, The Invisible Woman is part of the Fantastic Four who could theoretically call Wolverine, Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk, maybe even Iron Man. Get your imaginary facts right or no self respecting comic book geek will ever respect you. Nuff said!

Nerdrage is a terrible thing to waste. The article never claimed WW would call the FF.

Actually, it wouldn't be too hard to make the display clear with OLED technologies. I have a friend working on bendable, transparent OLED's. If say.. sony or samsung were involved, such a thing could be done. I suppose they didn't say it was impossible, but it is misleading.
