Indecent Exposure 51: Inevitable excuses

by Lori Grunin

No, you haven't traveled back in time; we recorded this episode the first week in June. Technical difficulties and illness prevented us from getting it posted. We're sorry we dropped out of sight, but we're back now and you're stuck with us. Anyway, in episode 51, Matt goes cuckoo for camera phones and we check out your pretty portraits.

Today's questions
White eye

Hi...I just discovered your existence therefor I gotta ask...can you point me in the right direction for me learning how to FIX my most recurrent problem?...WHITE eyes in my people digital photo's!!... I can get rid of red eye, but I don't know how to edit OUT the bad and edit IN the good.....and I really don't want to buy a $300 edit program that will take me a year to tutor myself in its abilities....so....
Seems to me, that I ought to be able to select the eye filter and be done with it!...or is this too 'simple'??....
sincerely,
bill zito
Fixing white eye
Is the white eye cancer?

Zoom and sensor size

Do we get more zoom with a sensor smaller than 35mm camera with the same lense ? For instance if I use a 18-55mm lense on a body like D90 would it give have a different optical zoom D700? If that is the case then would it not be better to getter a smaller sensor so we get more zoom with the same lense. Or is that the bigger sensor would compensate for the lack of optical zoom with digital zoom as the pixel size is bigger? The second question pertains to film cameras. I am curious to know are there any new film DSLR camera out there in the market?

Matt,

You were wondering about the signature on the headphones my daughter was wearing in the picture from the last contest. Unfortunately the story behind it isn't that interesting. The headphones are Panasonic RP-HTX7-RS. The signature is of Ryan Sheckler (some skateboarding guy). Only reason I got the pair with the signature versus one of the normal pairs without is b/c I found them one day on Amazon for super cheap.

Hello again,
Here is this weeks photo. I used a 50mm with an achromatic macro lens filter. It was the tiniest strawberry and the only one.

Just wondering is it better to use filters for macro or extension tubes? I have never used the tubes and was curious is it worth the expense of auto focus ones or stick with the manual focus?

Hey Peeps!

Most jolly to see you back!

Following on from our submission for the 'Portrait' episode which was influenced by and paying homage to Shinichi Maruyama's amazing imagery (http://www.shinichimaruyama.com/ and our effort: http://www.flickr.com/photos/grapemac/3595666907/) this week's attempt sticks with the 'frozen time' idea.

'Kusho Progression' this weeks effort, can be found here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/grapemac/3662887916/sizes/l/

'Progression' refers to a number of different ideas brought up during the process of creating the image/these images.

This is our second effort utilising a DSLR so progression from Point and Shoot to DSLR.

This however is also the first image taken with Andy's new Nikon D90 (http://www.flickr.com/photos/grapemac/sets/72157619736024147/) and so a marked progression from the Canon EOS 300D we used for 'Kusho Grapemac'.

The image also depicts a literal along with a metaphorical progression:

Literal: Time's progression
Metaphorical: Life's progression - Cookies and Milk to Coffee and Doughnuts...

Hope you like, looking forward to your comments.
