Today's questions
dSLR video

Hi Lori and Mat,
Hope you had a nice long weekend.
I came across this interesting piece of news but I am not too sure how far it is true. A full-length feature film has been made using the D90 called "Reverie" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1432978/trivia).
So you know where my question is heading. Video on DSLR's. I saw some video's shot using DSLR's and the pseudo DSLR the GH1. The hand held videos were quite wobbly despite having anti-shake technolgy and focusing was not always crisp. Even the GH1 which has continuous auto focus had a wobbly video while focusing in and out. So is there any point in having video recording in DSLR for ordinary consumers. Especially if all the good quality video is restricted to tripod based shooting.
My second question pertains to FPS. Every one seems to suggest their FPS is good enough which ranges from 24(Nikon) to 60 (on the GH1). So how much is good enough?
The next question is will the video quality at 720p be better using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II (full frame) be better than 720p video shot using a GH1(MFT) because of size of the sensor.
The last question is, (I know you must be thinking I would never get here) even if there is HD content at 720p or 1080p a person is restricted to the hardware they are using to view the content (Depending on which idiot box you use) So there may be 60fps of content but the hardware process only 30fps. Bottom line is HD video on DSLR's seems be more of a marketing strategy than of any real use for consumers.(I would be love to get counter arguments from your side.)
With Regards
Mr. Karthik

I thought that this was an interesting article about Nikon's 2009-2010 product lineup

Hello guys,

I wanted to upload my panorama photo to Flickr but it limits the photo to 1024 and you couldn't see anything, so I've uploaded to a Irish photo sharing site that I've used long before Flickr that doesn't constrain the size of the photo as Flickr does for the FREE users.

Here is my submission for this week's contest:

Couple of problems. Reverie is not a feature length film and it was shot with a Canon 5D Mk II, not a Nikon D90. LTS

Couple of problems with your problems. Reverie is a feature length film and it was shot with a D90. Another piece, more of a commercial, was shot by Vince Laforet with a Canon. But you probably know this by now.

Hey gang

This is my entry on this week's contest: My Town

http://www.flickr.com/photos/bloodless/3246245584/sizes/l/

This one is part of a photoshoot I did for a band called Memento. I did use the gradient filters in Lightroom to give life to the location and actually match the colorful clothing the band had.

Hope you like it

Cheers!

I hate to correct you but you confused Nikon D90 with Canon 5D Mark II.
First Nikon introduced movie mode in DSLR (not the way around) and second on Canon 5D Mark II was made Reverie and It's not a full length, it's just a short film, what you called "the trailer" is the actual the full film.

This film was made by Vincent Laforet with Canon 5D Mark II and with his canon lenses.

You can watch the "film" on one of this three links:

You and left turn need to do better research. There are 2 films with the same name, the latter being a full length feature film shot with the D90. Everyone knows about Laforet's fake commercial.

Hello Lori and Matt,

I shot this during the 2009 Car Show in Port Huron, MI. It's three exposures of -1, 0, +1. Port Huron is not a very big city with about 30K people in it. Unfortunately we live in the city with high unemployment about 17%, and downtown is about 40% occupied. It's a great town though we are right on Lake Huron and the St Clair river, so beaches and lots of water activity to do. We don't get to much snow, like Canada does. To get to Canada it's just a bridge away. Best of all most of the people here are very friendly. It's Great!

On watermarks, I guess I don't how I feel about them. For a long time I never put it on. One nice site asked if they could use one of my images, which was great. Then I found a few web site using my work and not getting credit for it. So I started to add it to the images. First quite small but in heavy black type, then I changed it to cover the lower part of the image yet dropped the opacity to 25% which I thought would be better. I am about to say the heck with it and not watermark again because I don't like it and it's one more step I can do without. If somebody is going to steal an image a watermark really won't make a difference anyway.

Hi,

Here's my entry for this week contest: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leeadc/3712772640/

I actually live in a pleasant little village just to the south of a town called Doncaster in the UK. But tucked away in a corner are these run down garages and this sign which is pretty funny.

I've placed it on the map in Flickr for you to find.

Lee.

Hi,

Here is a photo of the city center of my city:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/46463579@N00/3558287012/

I live in Delft, The Netherlands. It is a nice small city that hosts the Delft University of Technology. I was on my way home after a long evening and I just stopped at the city center and took some photos. I was experimenting with night HDR, which proved much more difficult than morning HDR photography. This is one of my first successful night HDR photos.

Cheers,
Hani

Here in my entry for my town. The Henry Hudson Trail is a hiking/biking trail that runs along an abandoned railroad route, right through my town (Middletown, NJ). There are scads of wonderful scenery along the trail, and within short walking distance of it (including beaches, harbors, marinas).

As I was taking the picture, a train crossed the trestle bridge in front of me. The horizontal lights were the images left by the train's lights during the eight second exposure.

On my walk home from work I walk across a Rugby field. I saw this scene and had my LG 990 mobile so I took this with that. What is this thing is often asked ... These are garbage bins on a make shift sledge for practicing scrums.

Hi Lori & Matt,

Here's my entry for this week.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/35413458@N03/3725613322/sizes/l/

Where North and South Street and East Main and West Main meet is Franklin Square in Middletown, NY. Used to be the place to hangout when we were kids (and before the Malls).

Wanted to do a panorama shot and thought there was a stitching program included with my D60. But I could not find it. (Any recommendations?) So I found & tried Autostitch. Was easy enough to use. And the result was better than I had expected with minimal fuss. Interestingly, the traffic light was green in one photo and yellow in the next. The yellow won. Personal note...I gotta get the polarizer. LTS
