iPhones missing calls while sleeping (locked)

Several users are reporting an issue where the iPhone inexplicably does not actively receive phone calls while in sleep/locked mode (invoked by pressing the sleep button on top of the unit, or the Auto-Lock function in Settings > General). When this problem occurs, users are sometimes notified that they have missed calls when the phone is unlocked (awoken), though the phone never rings, vibrates, turns on the screen or provides any other indication when the calls were actually incoming.

In a separate but related issue, some iPhones, in some cases will notify that a call is incoming and present the "Slide to Unlock" screen, but attempting to move the slider has no effect, with the interface being unresponsive.

Some users are apparently having their iPhones replaced by Apple because of this issue. Apple Discussions poster Leshi writes:

"Went to see a Genius at a local Apple Store today with the problem after trying everything possible (e.g. reset, restore) and multiple searches on this support discussion board. After a quick evaluation and restore, they swapped the iPhone for a new one! Now it's fully functional."

I've missed quite a few.

Some might be because the phone was using EDGE to access email. It apparently can't use EDGE and receive a call.
But I've missed about 10 calls in my house connected to Wi-fi.

This is interesting. I'll be tracking this one. To my knowledge my iPhone has not behaved this way yet. My previous AT&T phone was a SE W600i. It did this a fair amount, probably at least once a day. My work phone is a Samsung A900 on Sprint. It appears to miss calls with no notification as well, sometimes a couple of times a day. I had always assumed this to be a network issue since it happened on two different phones on two different networks.

I have the same problem. A solution is to this is to never put the phone to sleep (turn off the auto sleep timer and never click the sleep/wake button.)

The phone didn't always do this. For the first 3 weeks, it worked fine. Five or six before the 1.0.1 update, it started doing this. It would report "missed call" and could be reproduced perfectly. I ended up getting a new phone (upgrade from 4gb to 8gb) and the problem persisted.

I can confirm that the known issue of EDGE blocking calls is not the issue, since that issue blocks the call (the call goes directly to voice mail and there is no "missed call" message provided.)

Went to an apple store today and got my 8 GB phone replaced. They were patient, but required me to duplicate the "miss calls when sleeping" problem before they would replace the phone. It is easy to demonstrate as it always works if you let the phone go to sleep on it's own after 1 minute (auto lock deal.)

So I am happy now, I have a phone that rings, and everything works like a champ again.

Has there ever been a solution for this problem! I know many guys that have that exact same problem (see: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7699 )! It would be so great if this issue could be solved!

Btw: Your phone will ring if you let the Ipod play music constanttly. Not very good for the battery though.

As far as the iPhone is concerned I bought in Hong Kong, I am really getting extremely frustrated, not only does it miss all calls I get in the Sleep mode, it also adds the time I switch on my phone as the time the call was received. So for instance I turn on my phone at 12.17, I get all missed phonecalls registered at 12.17. In the beginning I rang the person that tried to reach me but often he or she made the call much earlier.
Furthermore, all of a sudden the WIFI function was no longer available. It is still in my settings menu but I cannot access it. However frantically I press the nice looking screen, it remains light grey. I read quite some comments of users stating that it happened after they installed Skype. It was around that period that it started but I cannot be sure that this is what caused the malfunction. However, resetting is not an option. I tried everything.
I will go back to the shop where I bought it and demand a new one or my money back.
