iPod Touch apparently lacks calendar input -- events must be synced

Add this to the list of differences between the iPhone and iPod Touch: apparently the latter's calendar application does not have the capability to add events directly from the device. Instead, calendar events must be synchronized from a host Mac or PC. This speculation stems from depictions of the iPod Touch on Apple's Web site in which the calendar app lacks the plus (" ") button of the iPhone's calendar app.

Several posters to Apple's Discussion boards have also noted that marketing text on Apple's iPod Touch site that previously mentioned "entering calendar events" has now been altered to remove that phrase.

"I have a 16GB on pre-order, but one thing i really want is the calendar function, and if you notice, on the american website, it says:

"And iPod touch features a touchscreen QWERTY keyboard perfect for browsing the web in Safari, searching for videos on YouTube, finding music on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, or adding new contacts."

"and on the Candian website it says:

"And iPod touch features a touchscreen QWERTY keyboard perfect for browsing the web in Safari, searching for videos on YouTube, finding music on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, entering calendar events, or adding new contacts."

While the Candian Apple site still mentions entering calendar events, the phrase has also been removed from German, Dutch and other international sites.

As such, it would appear that the iPhone Touch can only display calendar events that have been synced from a desktop computer. Of course, there's no way of knowing this for sure until the iPod Touch actually ships; and even if it lacks the functionality then, Apple could easily add it via a software update.
