Repeated iPhone freezes? Try this fix

While the iPhone certainly isn't the first mobile handset to suffer from freezes, its functional breadth and the fact that many of its users install unsupported third-party applications make the device, generally, more freeze-prone.

We've covered iPhone freezes on a number of occasions, noting that users should keep ample free space on the device and offering some suggestions that might alleviate crashes and freezes due to to corrupt data. Aside from not running browsing in Safari while playing music with the iPod application, however, actual usage notes on preventing freezes have been few.

Several users have now reported, however, that toggling the following two settings can result in a reduction in or complete elimination of freezes:

  • Tap Settings on the home screen. Tap General. Tap Auto-Lock. Set to "Never."
  • Tap Settings on the home screen. Tap Brightness. Turn Auto-Brightness off.

If you've experienced success eliminating crashes with these settings, please let us know.

Yes, I tried this, thanks. Although it does solve the freezing problem the downside is that the phone remains fully on. Mine became really hot and drained the battery within an hour. Sorry, but we need a better fix than this.

Have had continuing troubles with freezes , tried all tricks , nothing helped , even after 3.1.2 update.
Then I realized what I have done when freezes started and found that I used a background picture made by myself. So I changed back to one of standard background pictures and eureka ! no troubles any more . Seems that there is some hidden bug around this .

My iphone touchscreen was freezing without reason at any time and very randomly. I had sometimes no problem during hours, and some time, one freeze each 5 minutes. It was only happening when I was using it.
To unfreeze it, I had to press the top button, slide the slider, and I was back in my app .

I applied you procedure and for the moment, I have no more freeze. Thank you a lot!
However, autolock is useful and I would be happy to keep it activated. Is there another fix ?
