One-step iPhone jailbreak/unlock tool for iPhone 1.1.4 released

ZiPhone 2.5, a new release of the tool that can jailbreak and unlock iPhones through a graphical interface under both Mac OS X and Windows, has been released in an iPhone 1.1.4-compatible edition. This means that any iPhones with any firmware version -- including those that shipped with 1.1.4 out-of-the-box (OTB) can be jailbroken and unlocked. Users who have older firmware versions and wish to use the utility should perform a "restore and update" process in iTunes to bring their iPhones to version 1.1.4, then use one of the ZiPhone routines, including:

  • Just jailbreak, don't touch activation tokens or unlock. You still still need to connect the phone to iTunes to activate (for iPhones used with AT&T or another authorized network)
  • Jailbreak, activate, and unlock any version
  • Jailbreak and activate, but don't unlock

After you've performed any of the aforementioned processes, Installer.app (a repository and install tool for third-party applications) will be placed on your phone. You should immediately use it to install BSD Subsystem and other tools as mentioned in our guide.

Several iPhone Atlas readers have reported success using this utility. The entire process, including unlocking, takes 5 minutes or less. In the words of one user:

"I can't believe how easy that was."

Yesterday I used Independence to unlock my restored-to-1.1.4 phone here in Vancouver Canada.
Worked, but seemed to drop calls and and also the Google location thing didnt work at all.

Tonight I restored back to 1.1.4 with iTunes, did the full unlock/activation/jailbreak with ZiPhone and it all works fine!

I read that there are all kinds of rivalries and accusations going on, but this guy seems to have the best system for unlocking etc.

Just my 0.10c.

No Summerboard though - wont let me install it - only for 1.1.3. Any ideas?

wow this is by far the easiest upgrade I've done to my iPhone... Except for 1.1.1.... I just feel like an idiot because I didn't backup all my contacts... Good thing there's programs like iSIM in the installler.app!!

this rendered my speakerphone and microphone useless. then i tried to restore it through this program and it made it hard to do a complete restore, leaving me to have to restore my phone as a new phone. even when itunes asked me to restore the backup info, i kept getting a message that i had no signal. thank god i figured out to remove and replace the SIM card before trying anything else. i'm a first time jailbreaker. all the programs were neat but not worth the headache and panic of a nonworking $400 iphone. if anyone knows a fix for this, please share.

I have the 16GB iPod Touch and this tool does not seem to work for me. I keep getting the BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 error. Not a big deal because I can just go back to previous firmware versions but just annoying. I hope they will fix this soon...

If I read it correctly ZiPhone is not yet ready for an iPod touch 16GB, is this correct?

OK Sorry everyone, it's good now... my mistake was that I had the auto-lock on and when it turned on it would cut the upgrade off... after turning off the auto-lock the upgrade went VERY smoothly. 1.1.3 jailbreak works like a charm on the 16GB iPod Touch... now waiting for the 1.1.4 jailbreak app to be released. :-)

Jailbreak worked fine but Navizon doesn't work with my jailbroken 8 gig iPhone with 1.1.4. When I do a "Locate me" search, it places me about 8 miles from my correct position. Same thing happened when I did a jailbreak on 1.1.3. Also, several apps that I really like (Voicenotes, for example) only work on 1.1.3. Oh well.
