Camera photos won't save to iPhone: fix

Several users have reported an issue in which photos taken with the iPhone's built-in camera will not save to the device, vanishing immediately after they are taken.

The most successful fix for this issue we've seen thus far is as follows:

Restore your iPhone using iTunes, but do not restore custom settings data from the computer-stored backup after the restore process is complete. Do not set up as a new iPhone, and do not restore from backup -- just disconnect the iPhone when prompted to make this choice. Note that you'll temporarily lose text messages, notes, call history, contact favorites, sound settings, widget settings, etc with this method,.

Try taking a photo -- it should properly save to the device.

Connect your iPhone again, and in iTunes, restore your personal information from the backup when prompted.

Or you can ssh into your iPhone and issue a command.
Navigate to var/mobile/Media and issue this command.
chown -R mobile DCIM

No need for restoring or backups or anything.

Worst case, if it still won't work, back up your photos, and just delete (or rename, if you live in fear) the entire DCIM directory. Next time you fire up the camera, the iPhone will have regenerated an empty DCIM directory and everything will work fine.

I have another problem with my iphone camera. It saves the pictures I make, but as soon as I connect my iphone to my PC, Windows XP does not recognize my iphone but tries to add new hardware for a digital camera and ultimately my Windows XP crashes every time. The only solution I have found so far is to delete all the pictures from the iphone, before connecting it to the PC. I would appreciate if any of you who read this message provide any suggestion towards what should I do to fix this problem.

Within mere hours of reading this posting, my iPhone camera stopped working as described in the article for the FIRST TIME EVER! I was disappointed, but I thought the article was very serendipitous. I hadn't had a chance to try the fix described until this morning. I did it, and it worked perfectly! I didn't lose any data at all after reconnecting and syncing (it did take like 30 minutes to get all my music and videos back on the iPhone, of course). Didn't lose one iota of data as far as I can see...and the camera works again, of course.

My phone started this over 2 weeks ago, had it sent to apple even though it was fine when restored, but they did nothing for it. Prom was last Saturday and I missed out on all those photogenic memories, and now I'm just down right tired of this. So I tried the process described, it worked, but not after I synced my music back.. HELP!

I have found a simple way to make your iPhone save photos. Download phonezap application on your iPhone through Installer.

You need a wi fi to connect your Iphone to phone zap. click on Take a picture and take a photo.

It takes the photo and displays that as well. You can checkout the photon phonezap website also.
Try clicking some more pictures and check the white boxes in phone. Photos are actually there.

Then go to your camera, click and photos are there.

Just instead of SSHing into iphone I used mobile terminal (available in Cydia). Here is the full list of commands that need to be issued (commands should be typed as posted below because terminal commands are case sensitive):

su root
Password: alpine
cd /var/mobile/Media
chown -R mobile DCIM

Thanks!

I have the 3.0 version jailbroken.
My camera roll suddenly stopped saving pictures.
After hours of searching I tried to download CameraPro to fix my problem but I couldnt find it for the 3.0 (I tried in my friend's iphone that has the 1.1.4 and had a similar problem and worked fine :) )
I find an app in Cydia called SwapCameraRoll that creates a new folder and now I can save my pics there, my old pics were not erased but I can only see one folder at the time but still there. So try it it is a simple solution. Hope this may help someone else!
