O2, the United Kingdom's official iPhone carrier, has announced pricing for iPhone 3Gs purchased under the firm's "Pay and Go" program, which allows users to eschew a contract for a monthly "top-up" fee that provides a specified number of prepaid minutes and text messages.

With Pay and Go, the iPhone 3G 8GB will be priced at £299.99 (just under $600) and the 16GB model at £359.99 (just over $700). The Pay and Go program also includes unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 6 months after a user activates his iPhone. At the end of the six months, the user can elect to purchase unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for £10 per month.

This offer is applicable to all new and upgrading customers who purchase an iPhone on Pay and Go until Dec 31st 2008.

Does the free Wi-Fi mean O2 hot-spots? Otherwise Wi-Fi is free or am I missing something?

It's the normal o2 iPhone Wi-Fi deal. 9500 Wi-Fi hotspots on The Cloud and (from 11th July) BT Openzone.

so that makes the O2 subsidy to apple ?200 a unit. or 1/3 of the monthly fee it makes the contract at ?30 pcm basic sounds like good value. (?99 or ?159 on ?30pcm/tariff)

for the extra money I'd still go contract and get decent support! and full browsing for life of the phone (3G or WiFi).

but at launch it includes BT Openzone and The cloud which covers most places even my local shopping centre!
