Apple has posted an updated version of the iTunes 8 installer that purportedly resolves a previously reported issue in which connection of an iPhone or iPod touch to a Windows Vista system results in a blue screen of death (BSOD).

An Apple support note states:

"After installing iTunes 8 for Windows, some users may see a blue screen error message when connecting iPhone or iPod to a Windows Vista computer."

The fix involves uninstalling Apple Mobile Device Support then reinstalling the updated iTunes 8 package. Not coincidentally, one of our previously published workarounds involved uninstalling Apple Mobile Device Support then reinstalling iTunes 7.7.

For full instructions and the new iTunes 8 download link, see Apple's support document.

I had this issue. Started off installing iTunes8 yesterday which triggered the bluescreen of death on my Vista pc. So I didn't turn on iTunes till Friday when I tried to update my iPhone 3G. Bluescreen got worse.. now it was appearing every time when I connected the iphone to the usb.
I called apple support, was put on hold for about 4 minutes then I was assisted by a nice lady that solved my issue in about 5 minutes. Turned out I needed to unplug my usb to my printer. Everything works perfact after syncing up. Thanks Apple tech lady.
