TouchType Brings Landscape Mode to iPhone Mail

Mail on the iPhone mysteriously does not support landscape mode for reading and writing email. Fortunately, an intrepid developer, Mark Schneider, has come to the rescue with an App called TouchType. TouchType costs $.99 and it is a new iPhone App that solves this problem. Open the App and you get a landscape mode keyboard. You can then type your email and hit the send button and it auto-populates the Mobile Mail App. Enter your email address and off goes the message you just typed. If you would prefer to type your email messages in landscape vs. portrait mode than this app comes highly recommended.

I installed this app and it works wonderfully in composing email. However, I can't seem to figure out how to use it to reply to email. Any body figure that out? The links to the developer on the iTunes Store don't work.

I have no problem creating email messages in landscape mode on the iPod Touch using either my Google mail or my MSN Hotmail accounts. . . Just need to use Web access vs. iPhone mail accounts.

and what about text messaging? That's the one that kills me the most for getting my text correct. With email, I always re-read it before sending... not so much with SMS.

Why did you all highlight just one of these apps?? FOUR apps were released on the app store last night that can all let you write emails in landscape mode, some of which might be better than this app that iPhone Atlas arbitrary decided to promote. For a more complete list, see:

I purchased the app. but now feel stupid -- I do not see any difference. The keyboard is the same size as my email keyboard. What gives?

When it is in portrait view, there is an "i" button in the top middle. Tap it. It is actually a help button and will tell you how to reply to an email.

Why are you posting these other comments but not mine about the 3 other apps that do this? Are you all deliberately favoring that one app?

Okay, thanks for letting my comments through, but it would be a service to your readers if you'd update the main article .. make it clear to your readers that they have several options to choose from, not just one app.
