New iPhone User Guide with iPhone OS 2.2 Additions Released

by Ben Wilson

Apple has posted a new version of the iPhone user guide, which includes several additions related to iPhone OS 2.2. These include instructions on Google Street View usage and more.

Some excerpts:

  • "If you're taking public transit, the overview screen shows each leg of the trip and the mode of transportation, including where you need to walk. The top of the screen shows the time of the bus or train at the first stop, the estimated arrival time, and the total fare. Tap to set your departure or arrival time, and to choose a schedule for the trip. Tap the icon at a stop to see the departure time for that bus or train. When you tap Start and step through the route, detailed information about each leg of the trip appears at the top of the screen. "
  • "Turn Auto-Correction on or off: Choose General > Keyboard and turn Auto-Correction on or off. Auto-Correction is on by default."

Great! A new update! I can't wait to use all those new features everyone has been asking for! That landscape keyboard is gonna come in rea.......what?! no landscape keyboard? Oh well..... you can't hope for everything all in one great release. I'll just have to be satisfied with copy and.... what the ****!!! No copy and paste either?!!!! Seriously, who's steering this ship? Helen Keller? Come on Apple!!!!

Do you have a link to this new guide? I've been looking for it on Apple's website but haven't been able to find.

Anyone else unable to Check for Updates since installing the new version? I can access the Apple Store itself, but when I Check for Updates, neither my phone nor iTunes makes a connection.

I am can confirm that I too can not check for application updates, using iTunes or my 3G iPhone, just another 2nd rate quality effort from Apple

I've noticed that this version's made my phone much more prone to being dim. I guess they've made changes to the sensitivity of the light sensor in an effort to improve battery life?

But STILL no landscape keyboard? No push email? C'mon.

The unavailability of the app updates portion of the iTunes Store preceded the new iPhone software update. Not sure why it's not responding, but it's not being caused by the update (directly). I was unable to check for app updates from any iTunes client (including iPhone and iPod touch) well prior to Apple putting up the new software... FWIW.

And just where is this new 2.2 user guide located? A link would certainly have been nice, since Apple has hiddenit very well on their website.

Agree with the above. No access to updates. No link to the guide. At first I thought, hello - the server is just overloaded. But now, still.......?

To see the street view you need to look at the under page by clicking in the lower right corner to set a dropped pin , move it to where in 2D you wish and then tap the red "person" icon on the dropped pin banner.

Took me a whole day to figure that out.

Not very good documentation or instruction; where is the You Tube video, doesn't Google own that too?

Zzzphone invented and patented the "customizable" made to order cellphone in 2006. Cellphone buyers can order their zzzphone with technical, modular, and cosmetic features such as wi fi, gps, color cases, ect, to suit their own needs and wants. Buyers no longer need to be confused by the 100s of different brands and models. Buyer's no longer need to be locked to expensive 2 year contracts The true cost to buyers of most brand "smart" phones is about $800. ZZZphones with Google Android start at an amazing $119 (INTRODUCTORY OFFER).

We have new pages on www.zzzphone.com that feature (in addition to custom features per patents) 4 modular (patent pending) add ons. Remove the back case (battery cover) and replace it with a mini boom box, full qwert keyboard, huge battery with 100,000 candlepower flashlight, or a projector. There is a slide show of our new Android model on the website Our version of Android is engineered by members of the Google Android development team (open alliance).

Motorola announced on the web that it is hiring 300 engineers and will take about 1 year to bring a GOOGLE Android phone to market. Tiny ZZZ phone has done what only GOOGLE/HTC with its billions has done. Unlike the Google G1 phone the ZZZphone is fully customizable and has modular bolt on accessories. I'm very proud of our team. Presale orders are coming fast and our patents on the modular concept, custom build process, virtual website, and 4 Google Android soft ware programs are granted/or pending.

All of these modules replace the back (battery) cover and only make the phone about as thick as a Google G1 phone. Without modules the phone is similar to the iphone in size and features. If you have ordered our model without "modular" capability you can either upgrade your order with snap on modular keyboard, snap on projector, snap on mini boom box, snap on huge battery with 100,000 candlepower flashlight, or ask for upgrade or downgrade or ask for partial or full refund. www.zzzphone.com.

The 1 sim card model is scheduled for shipping on December 15, 2 sim card model is undergoing some minor engineering changes.
