iPhone OS 2.2 Re-Locking Some Legally Unlocked Phones?
While the issue is not universal, some users are reporting a problem in which the iPhone OS 2.2 update locks legally unlocked iPhones (sold in Hong Kong, certain countries in Europe and elsewhere). The issue may occur if a legally unlocked phone is bought in one country then updated to OS 2.2 in another country. Among the user reports from this Apple Discussions thread:
- "Bought legally unlocked iPhone in Hong Kong. Updated to 2.2 in Germany. No my iPhone seems to be locked."
- "I bought my iPhone 3G legally unlocked from HK, and I just upgraded to iPhone 2.2, but it seems my phone is locked now. On the phone it says emergency calls only and iTunes is saying not supported SIM."
Many other users are having no problems with legally unlocked phones after the update.
If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.

No problem at all.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
A) Wait for Apple to release (in their own good time) some sort of patch to help those countless people like myself who did the right thing and paid for a proper legal Unlocked iPhone.
B) Wait for the someone like the Dev-Team to come up with some sort of work around
Sucks to be me!

- ouch ... own an 8gb 3g iphone, bought in the uae several months ago, updated to 2.2.1, no problem, but bought my wife a 16gb several days ago, popped in her sim, it worked, updated to 2.2.1 ... locked up ... same problem searched all the net posts ... still no solution as etisalat, the national carrier says that if they reinstall it they will have to relock it to their sim, which is a problem as we are expats who travel to different countries & usually switch phone sims to local carriers as roaming breaks our budget .... have used apple / mac since 1979 .... 30 years & am increasingly frustrated with the corp as it becomes more ibm / microsoft-like in its business practices ... might suggest a hi-volume email to apple customer service & legal action within the european union, most countries of which have outlawed locked iphones ..
