Users are experiencing a series of issues--some minor, some significant--after the iPhone OS 2.2.1 update.

Installation fails, cannot restore Several users have reported an issue in which the installation of iPhone OS 2.2.1 fails partway through and subsequent restore attempts fail, yielding, in essence, an unusable iPhone.

If you experienced a similar issue, try the suggestions listed in this article.

Airplane mode problems Make sure that your iPhone is not in airplane mode. If the iPhone is in airplane mode when it is updated, it will not be able to properly activate after the software installation takes place. To get around this, avoid putting your iPhone in airplane mode prior to the update, or (if you've already applied the update in airplane mode), disconnect your iPhone from your computer, then slide the emergency call switch and follow the prompt to disable airplane mode. Press the home button, connect your iPhone back to your computer and allow activation to take place.

Slowness Some users have reported laggy or otherwise poor performance from interface elements under iPhone OS 2.2.1. If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.

I applied the update this morning. I have never used airplane mode. So phone was not in it.

Now all I get every few seconds on the phone, even while in sleep mode, and it wakes the screen is message:

This accessory is not made to work with tphone.Would I like to turn on Airplane mode to eliminate interference etc?

This error comes up every 30 seconds or so. I have tried hard restarting the iPhone hold down Home and top button until iPhone shuts down. This didn't do anything.

Hard to believe Apple yet again messes up updates.

iphonedm,

i have received this message as well. however this usually refers to an old iPod/iPhone radio/charger base. Is your phone only plugged into your computer through the USB cable? Or do you connect and charge your iPhone by plugging it into a non-Apple dock charger with radio frequency (usually an older model)? This message has come up for me as well when I plug it into a non-Apple dock with radio frequencies as the radio frequencies interfere with the phone's networking capabilities (except wifi connection I believe). All you need to do is turn on Airplane Mode while it is connected to a radio-capable dock and that should do the trick.

If you receive this message under any other circumstances then I don't know what else could be causing the message to come up.

I'm getting this same message and it's driving me crazy. Like you, I'm getting it when I have nothing attached to the phone. When you find a fix, please let me know.

I've noticed one big change since the 2.2.1 update. My signal cell strength is back up to where it was when I was running 2.1. When Apple released their signal strength fix (I think it was in 2.0.3) there was a lot of talk about the fix being something like this - SIGNAL = (ACTUAL SIGNAL + 3 BARS). That "fix" hung around until 2.2. When I applied that update the signal indicator dropped dramatically. Since last November I've only been able to get 1, maybe 2 bars at my house - after last nights update it's been showing consistently 4 or 5 bars...

Make sure Classic (Mac OS 9) is not running when you update an iPhone.

I had an issue where I loaded the update at home. Everything worked find, even had some updates via itunes for a few apps that the phone didn't recognize as needing an update prior to the os update. The bad news is when I got to work and sync'd my phone with my work calendar/contacts ALL my apps deleted from the screen. Anyone know of a fix for this...not just reloading but preventing it from happening in the future?

Here's a fun surprise I had waiting for me after updating: The JBL speaker system I've been using with my iPhone since the day I got it no longer works with the iPhone! When I plug it in, it charges the battery of the phone but the phone tries to use its internal speaker when I play music.

No it's cool though, that speaker system only cost two hundred and fifty dollars.

Thanks for bricking it, Apple!

I failed to get connected with bluebooth headset after upgrading to 2.2.1. I have tried 4 different brands and models and they can successfully paired with iphone 3G but simply no voice transmitted. I have tried all tricks including hard reset, restoring in iTunes, the airplane mode trick and others but still no luck.

My headset worked flawlessly before the upgrade and it is really frustrating. Anybody can offer some helps on this?

After I updated to 2.2.1, I can no longer get any internet access unless I am using wifi. Anyone else have this issue? If I turn wifi off, every app errors out and safari bombs as well.

I am having a problem with my battery indicator since the 2.2.1 upgrade. It shows a full charge all the time. I figured it out today when my phone shut off. Anyone else seen this issue?

After the 2.21 update my iphone keypad row where numbers 4, 5, 6 are located respond at times only not always like before. Similarly buttons along the same row on the screen do not respond always. My Iphone has been used only for 3 months. Is this a hardware defect or related to the 2.2.1 update. Would appreciate some inputs.
