Apple's engineering department isn't sparing the horses for iPhone OS 3.0. It has released beta 2 to developers along with the green light for developing applications with push notifications. Beta 1 was released only two weeks ago.

Like most Apple updates, the new beta 2 includes several stability and performance enhancements that might make the beta more pleasing to use if you are testing it. We've heard from some early beta 1 testers complaining about the number of issues they were experiencing with the first release.

Stability is good, but now there are reports cropping up that new features are appearing in the latest beta including one of the most wanted features--more pages in Springboard--the iPhone's desktop application.

According to the The iPhone Blog, beta 2 has enabled 11 Home Screen pages for application storage, up from the previous nine. This raises the total number of applications available on the iPhone at once to 180 (up from 148).

While this is a welcome change to iPhone OS 3.0, there is still no way apparently to sort alphabetically or to arrange any of the applications by category.

CNET had additional coverage about iPhone OS 3.0 here, here, here, and here.

Developers and beta testers, let us know about your experiences with this latest iPhone OS 3.0 beta in the comments.

they should add a way to organize the apps in some way, maybe by category if not alphabetically. Right now, my iphone feels very cluttered even with a minimal amount of apps.

I think that's what they're trying to do with Spotlight, which allows you to search many things, including apps. But I agree, I think they should add a way to organize apps. The best way, I think, is to implement Stacks in Springboard.

Updating it right now. I've heard reports that MMS is working in this update but we shall see. I'll update this post after it finishes.

Takes quite a long time to update for such a small updating file (230MB)

Not working as of right now. It seems a lot of people are just hit and miss. I'll keep trying and update.

The MMS feature of the iPhone BETA does not work. It is NOT because of a "hit and miss". They released nine different BETA's for the iPhone 2.0 which was the update for the appstore. They could possibly have it working towards the end (near release (June)). As of now it is a dream.

Hopefully one of the 100 new upgrades coming to the iPhone OS 3.0 will be the addition of App Folders. Games, Utilities, News ect. It would make faster navigating and less time paging through 11 pages of apps.

Not going to happen.

At least for iPod Touch 2G users, this OS seems to be well-worth the $9.95 upgrade fee.

To me the update doesnt seem worth it. The only major thing on the iPod is the Cut/Paste. Also the update will be available about.... 2 weeks after for free on any torrent site if they can get the OS out of iTunes and loaded into a server.... Other words... WAITING IS GOOD.

MMS does work, I am able to send/receive on the Beta 2 but not on Beta 1. Follow these steps:

Contact ATT
Setup a Family Text Messaging Plan (This removes the iPhone text plan which prohibits MMS currently)
ATT has a feature that connects to go.now, ensure that this is registered (I'm sorry I can't remember the name.

Mine works great. Was sending/receiving pic messages all weekend!

ithink beta software has great improvements .
but they need to realease a beta 3 software . the main reason , its that i had restore my iphone 4 times ,because of the reason of crashing on messeges or what is called text .

another thing is that once you restore , and backup , youtube says that you cant connect to youtube , this only happens when you backup your data from itunes .

they need to enable picture messages ;_

I am using the Beta 4 and this and...

* caps lock is not working.
* MMS still not working.
* i add 12 contacts to my favorites and when you scroll down to dial the last on the list the windows goes up by itself, i can't access the last 2 contacts on my favorites.
* i have 700 songs on my iphone, 5 play List.. i can play the songs if i tap on the play List but If i tap the ARTIST it shows NO ARTIS,,, the same happen when i tap on SONGS, it shows NO MUSIC.
* and the last one, when trying to make a call using the keypad, 70% of the time the CONTACT / CALL / BACK ROW disappears.
