Apple update resolves iPhone DFU mode problem and Note Syncing

According to a report on spaziocellulare.com, Apple's recent Mac OS X 10.5.7 update brings two welcome changes for iPhone and iPod Touch users.

DFU Mode Fix

Last fall, our sister site, MacFixit, reported that Mac OS X 10.5.6 causes iPhone jailbreak/unlock problems by making it impossible to enter DFU mode, a deeper version of Recovery Mode activated by holding Power and Home for 10 seconds, then releasing Power while holding Home for 10 more seconds. This feature, which is helpful in jailbreaking an iPhone or an iPod Touch, is also important for troubleshooting and when performing the most complete restore possible. Thankfully for anyone who needs a full restore, DFU Mode Fix has been restored by the 10.5.7 update to OS X.

Notes Synchronization with MobileMe

Apple now supports full Note synchronization for those using MobileMe, iPhone OS 3.0 beta, iTunes 8.2 beta, and OS X 10.5.7. Notes sync is definitely a welcome addition to the list of things that MobileMe already synchronizes: mail, bookmarks, and third-party data.

What do you think about the restoration of DFU mode and the notes syncing with MobileMe? As Apple makes more improvements to MobileMe, are you more interested in renewing or starting your subscription to the service than before? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I would stop complaining and even recommend MobileMe if I could actually upload files to iDisk larger that a couple of mb. I've tried uploading through XP, Vista and even Windows 7RC, using a variety of methods (different browsers, WebDav and even through Dreamweaver) and nothing works. Apple support said it's because I'm in the UK and the servers are in California! She may have thought it was April 1st...

lets just say you wouldn't want to be ME watching the tears flowing for the needed replacement of an Iphone, however, the sim card was left in the phone with irreplaceable memories ....like I said, you wouldn't want to be ME....just how many tears are pictures worth?????

Syncing Notes between the Mac and the iPhone is WAAAY overdue, but I dropped dotMac several years ago because of its "temporary" downtimes, just when I needed it the most. From what I read, those problems have not been resolved by changing the name to MobileMe.

Syncing between the two has been hinted at since iPhone 1.0, but still isn't implemented. I won't spend $99 a month just because Apple implements it through MobileMe.

How about implementing it, like all other "syncing", through iTunes??? Durnit! This ain't rocket science, and implementing this only through MobileMe is not incentive enough for me to get all enthusiastic about a poorly maintained "cloud", just because Mother Apple wants to push their Cloud computing concept.

I'm not all that impressed with MobileMe either for the reasons stated above and for the 'annoyance factor' when those Apple "cloud" servers are down.

Uggh, I upgraded to iphone 3.0, but my notes do not seem to sync with MobileMe. It only syncs via iTunes. Does anyone else have this problem?
