Last week, Apple released iTunes 9.0.1, which addresses a number of iPhone syncing issues as well as making some performance and stability improvements.

During our first hands-on look of iTunes 9, we noted two problems with podcast episodes being listed in random order and being unable to arrange certain apps based on their being checkmarked and therefore set to sync to the iPhone or iPod Touch in question.

Later, we discovered more problems with syncing in general, including wrong episodes being synced to playlists containing podcasts, podcasts failing to sync, etc. Smart Playlists, according to users, were generally messed up and did not behave as expected.

iTunes 9.0.1 has addressed all of these issues with the exception of the Smart Playlist problem. Podcasts are now properly synced, podcast episodes display in the correct order, and you can arrange apps regardless of their sync status.

The temporary workaround for new or existing Smart Playlists that no longer work as they used to is to uncheck "Live updating" in the settings.

iTunes 9.0.1 also addresses other issues, including performance issues that can lead to iTunes freezing or unexpectedly quitting, problems browsing the iTunes Store, and improved app syncing for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The update is available from Software Update or via direct download from Apple's downloads page for both Mac or PC.

Thanks so much for this! I thought I had tried every possible combo, but no, I missed this one. Sorting my music playlists by Last Played / ascending allows me never to miss one on my iPhone.

Way to go, David Martin - you da man!

My iPod skips when connected to a bluetooth headset, but only wen I ask the iPod to do something other than play music. Unlock, Check email, or other processor intensive activities.

Well there's another glitch that cropped up for some, including me, now when I update or buy new apps iTunes constantly asks me for a password. No matter if I check the box that says "remember my password for purchases." Apple forum has a few discussions about this new glitch, never had the prompt in iTunes 8.

I'll have a fix posted for this soon with several options. Resolved my "remember my password" problems.

9.0.1 does NOT fix a problem created by 9.0. Playlists containing podcasts do not show up at all when synched to my Ipod Nano (4th Gen). This means that I cannot listen to podcasts in the car through my radio.

I found that checking sync-all podcasts did not work. My workaround for this with 9.0 (not sure if 9.01 fixed it or not) was to create a new smart playlist that consisted of all podcasts and specifically check the box to sync that playlist and any other playlist that you use for podcasts. Once I did that, the pocasts started showing up both through the menus and the playlists.

iTunes 9.0.1 CONTINUES to freeze when I sync my iPod Nano (3rd gen.). Occasionally, if it do nothing else on my Windows XP computer after I've attached the Nano, it will successfully synchronize. However, if I do anything else, including in another program, iTunes freezes solid.

I downloaded iTunes 9.0.1 and the next time I synced my iPhone all my contact numbers and addresses disappeared from the phone leaving just the names and notes. I've tried replacing the contacts information on the phone with the information on the Mac, but that didn't help either. Anyone else have this problem, or better yet, a solution?
