Trillian IM: Apple's sitting on our iPhone app

Trillian IM users on the PC or Web who have been waiting to chat with Trillian on the iPhone will have to wait a while longer.

According to Trillian maker Cerulean Studios, Apple has been sitting on Trillian's submission for the last two months without a peep to indicate a problem with the app's content or the quality.

Apple has become known for hemming and hawing over apps that may compete with Apple or with AT&T's services, but Trillian is by no means the only all-in-one chat app trying to make it in the App Store. Palringo, Palringo Lite, IM+, and Beejive have been live for months.

It is also not unusual for apps to be approved in two or three weeks. For Cerulean Studios, which is eager to take its chatting experience to-go, any news at this point is good news.

Trillian Astra is a freemium multinetwork instant messenger that provides basic services for free and unlocks premium features in a paid pro upgrade.

Jessica Dolcourt reviews the latest and greatest smartphone apps, in addition to a healthy dose of Windows software. E-mail Jessica and follow her on Twitter.

The duplicate functionality excuse is a crock of B.S.

There are thousands of apps in the App Store that duplicate native iPhone/iPod touch functionality.

Apple is lame, cant wait until this comes out for the infinitely better palm pre. Palm Pre Homebrew Appz FTW.

Ah, the old comparison to the Pre. Gotta love it. And what is the Pre is at now for the US smartphone market?

I wish Cerulean the best on this with Apple. I've been eagerly awaiting Trillian Astra for iPhone for a very long time now. This is one of the few truly useful apps that I'd use on a daily basis and it looks to be rubust and very well thought out.

a sign that trillian should only bother with smartphones that have developer freedom instead of apple interference.

I think this app would be cool. I love the idea of the Blackberry messenger, and I've always thought the iPhone needed something that incorporated the idea of BBM.

Why should Trillian ignore the biggest market in the industry? They shouldn't.
Getting approved has been known to take months. As long as the product is bug-free and submitted, it should be fine though.

I'm definitely looking forward to this. I'll wait on some reviews before purchasing, simply because I have Beejive and enjoy it. I'm a big fan of trillian for the desktop, so definitely going to keep an eye on this one though.

Good luck to them, but if this is better than Beejive, I'll be amazed.

Please just release the final version to a repo on Cydia, If Apple doesn't want to make any money on this app, make it all for yourself! Screw them!
