I have a lot in common with Om Nom, star of ZeptoLab's Cut the Rope. I'm cute as the dickens. I don't say much. And I love candy.
I'm also willing to be studied in the name of science, which is the theme of Om Nom's new game: Cut the Rope: Experiments. In it, our beloved little monster finds himself under the microscope of the Professor, who's apparently trying to get to the bottom of Om Nom's sweet tooth.
Yeah, it's a pretty flimsy backdrop to what is essentially a Cut the Rope sequel--but, hey, just go with it. Experiments features 75 new levels and some nifty new gameplay elements.
In case you missed the original game (which I suggested might be the best thing since Angry Birds), Cut the Rope stars cute, candy-crazed monster Om Nom. (Best...name...ever.)
In each level, the candy is attached to a series of ropes you slice with your finger. To complete a level, you need to figure out which ropes to cut, and when, to swing the candy into Om Nom's mouth--collecting as many stars as possible in the process.
Experiments delivers more of the same, but with the aforementioned "plot," a new soundtrack, and inventions like a rope gun and suction-cup holders. I don't want to give away much more than that, as much of the fun comes from discovering the new gizmos in each level.
Just one complaint: the Experiments icon looks almost identical to the regular Cut the Rope icon, and both apps appear on your device as "Cut the Rope." Good luck remembering which is which.
Cut the Rope: Experiments costs 99 cents for iPhone/iPod Touch and $1.99 for iPad. (Come on, ZeptoLab, it's time to get with the universal-app program already.) If you're a fan of the original, this is a no-brainer. If not, well, there's something seriously wrong with you. (Kidding!)
By the way, I asked the developer's PR guy when we might expect an Android version of the game. His answer: "ZeptoLab always seems to be very interested in making that happen, but there's no time table that we're aware of."
